Nina's Story

I'm a single parent of three beautiful children, I have spent the past 12 years raising my family and managing my home. After going through a divorce five years ago, I became very depressed; I had low self-esteem, low confidence and I didn't like myself very much. In fact I was a total wreck.

I first found Milton Keynes Women and Work Group through the Job Centre.

I now know that the way I was, was going to destroy me and my family. I wanted to change my life, but having being out of the work force for many years, and with having old and rusty skills, I just didn't know where to start. Since having made contact with MK W&W, the group has been a life saver to me.

Since January 2008 I have attended workshops and three courses:

• Successful Job Applications
• Interpersonal Skills
• Effective Communication (with children)

I've thoroughly enjoyed all of the courses, all of the tutors were friendly, approachable and inspirational, the whole team that run Women and Work are!

Coming along to Women and Work has given me the opportunity to socialise, and I've particularly loved meeting new people and making new friends.

My children, other members of the family and friends have noticed that since I've been coming to Women and Work that my confidence has soared, I am now positive and assertive. I am no longer afraid to try out new things, my fear of change had vanished, I now Face The Fear And Do It Anyway!

I now have a wide sense of achievement of what I have accomplished so far. My whole outlook and attitude has changed for the best. I've obtained new skills that I know will help me find employment.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved with Women and Work who have helped me in my transformation.
