Robina's Story

I returned back to the UK from abroad after 18 years. Until July of last year I had been running a school but became a victim of the recession, I was made redundant.

I decided not to settle in busy London where I was brought up but instead I moved in with my sister in Milton Keynes. I endeavoured on searching for the right job. I must have sent out at least thirty or forty CVs in response to advertised vacancies and filled in many many applications, sadly without success. My sister then guided me to Women and Work. She went to them a few years back when after her children grew up because she wanted to work again and they had helped her to get back to into work.

My situation was different but I disparately needed to get a job.

I came in on the 'walk in day' on Monday and was seen by a member of women and work and was assigned an adviser . My adviser, Avril, guided me and put me on a Job Search course with Joan and Isobel. They were amazing. Before I was convinced that I had the perfect cv and knew all about application forms. Boy, I was wrong! The course directed me towards the job that I wanted and on the way I learnt on how to correctly fill out application form , have an eye catching CV and make that impression at an interview. I actually enjoyed filling out application forms and am actually missing it! However, by the end of the course I had landed myself the job I wanted and took away lifelong learning experience, which I hope I won't need again.

I would like to thank women and work not only my advisers and trainers but the whole team without who I still would be looking for job.
