Creative IT & History
Since November 2006 the Creative IT & History module has run twice and been extremely well attended.
Parents (we have both mums and dads) and their children have arrived straight from school eager to continue
the work on their personal web page. Using family photographs, they have learned to repair aged photos and crop
others to the required size.
Writing their stories together has been the subject of animated debate and tales of ancestors and long lost
family members have come to light.

IT Design
Planned in conjunction with Creative IT and History and run at the Living Archive the IT Design module
has enabled parents and their children to produce calendars and greeting cards.
Once again using family photographs, these personalised items were produced on Microsoft Publisher.
We have found that running this course during half term has it has provided a welcome activity for families to attend.
In May of this year, Phyllis Starkey MP visited the course to
see for herself exactly what the Learning together Project offers both parents and children.

Homework Support
Parents and children work together using the Internet to research homework projects.
Starting with how to use The Internet safely, the course will include a list of appropriate
websites to support this research.
Lists of free student software along with useful tips on how to present
the research will also be available.
Introduction to Computers
Having been taught to use computers at school, some parents find that their children have better skills on the computer
than they do. We have thought of that too - and in order to enable parents to catch up with their children
we are running an Introduction to Computers module. This course will be aimed at different levels of experience;
-
Those who have no experience of Computers
-
Those who have experience but need to fill in gaps or brush up on their experience.
For those with no experience, the course is designed to show how a computer can be useful to them in their life
and provides demonstrations of the various packages which can be used,
including all the Microsoft Packages; Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook and Publisher.
In response to the requests of parents,
the course for the more experienced users is designed to show how clients can apply what they already know in
an office environment. Clients can produce Newsletters, run mailmerge and produce letters and invoices using all
the Microsoft packages mentioned above plus a photo management package.
Effective Communication with Children
Commissioned and developed for the Parent and Child Programme,
this module provides attendees with the opportunity to meet with other parents and to share experiences and
explore solutions together.
The module explores what childhood means today and the pressures and demands of modern living on children and parents.
Parents leave the course with the ability to recognise what is currently happening in their relationships with
children and armed with new skills and tools to improve communication with their children and to provide them with the
support they need. Attendees will work with case studies,
role play and creative exercises to gain insight into different methods of approach.
Interpersonal Skills
“In my opinion your courses have a magic ingredient that lifts them into a class of their own”
….. “I am awed by the way you transform the lives of the women on your course.“
These are some of the comments received in response to this powerful course.
An Accredited Course, recognised by employers and a useful addition to a CV or Portfolio,
this course teaches how to communicate effectively and get along with people whether at home, with children,
friends and family or in the workplace.
The techniques adopted enable self learning, personal development,
raised self esteem and self confidence and becomes a springboard for students to go on to fulfil the ambitions
and goals in a way they never believed possible.
We are delighted to be able to include this very successful and much sought after course as part of the programme.
